Virtual Tour / ATTO - Amazon Tall Tower Observatory
ATTO – Amazon Tall Tower Observatory
The Amazon Tall Tower Observatory (ATTO) is a research site in the middle of the Brazilian Amazon rainforest, located in the State of Amazonas, about 150 km from Manaus. It consists of a steel bar mast 325 meters high, higher than the Eiffel Tower in France, and two other 80-meter high towers, as well as laboratories led by Brazilian and German researchers. The purpose of the tower is to record meteorological, chemical, and biological data, such as the concentration of greenhouse gases, to better understand the interactions between the atmosphere, climate, and forest.
