The Bumbá-ox and the Amazon River Dolphin
The boi-bumbá and the Amazon river dolphin refer to two important festivities in the Amazon region. The first refers to the Parintins festival, held annually in Amazonas. Considered one of the largest folkloric festivals in the world, the event features performances by several bois-bumbá, especially Caprichoso and Garantido. The Amazon river dolphin, in turn, alludes to the Sairé party. It is a secular cultural event that takes place annually in Vila Balneária de Alter do Chão, in Santarém (State of Pará), in which the religious and the folk come together, with parades, processions and shows, in which the legend of the region’s aquatic animals, the tucuxi and the Amazon pink river dolphin is told.
